About Me

A down-to-earth, ordinary man made extraordinary only in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I have been a follower of Jesus Christ for many years and love to dig into the Word of God (the Bible) to discover nuggets of truth and revelations about Jesus Christ. In Christ is my hope of glory.

I am David Quek Hian Kee, born on January 9, 1955, into a family of early migrants to Singapore. My mother was an Indonesian Chinese from Jakarta, and my father, who left Fujian, China, worked as a seaman. They both arrived in Singapore in the early 1950s as part of the initial population during the colonial days under British rule.

I grew up in a family of seven, being the second of three brothers and four sisters. Raised in a Christian home—although my father came to Christ much later—we all attended Christian Sunday School at Geylang Gospel Hall, a rural Brethren church.

After finishing my education and completing two years of National Service in the Army, I began my adult years working and training in civil engineering as a Clerk of Works with the local Housing & Development Board (HDB) for many years.

My initial theological foundation was with a Brethren assembly—Geylang Gospel Hall—and later at Bethesda Chapel, where I both fellowshipped and ministered.

I met a girl serving in the church who later became my wife. Shortly after our marriage, while serving as a young adult leader, I was appointed as a deacon and later became a lay leader, eventually serving as an elder of the church.

Fast forward to 1995, at the age of 40, I became a co-founding pastor of Zion Living Streams Community Church. This small group of around 100 members—mostly younger adults with some senior elders—broke away from Bethesda Chapel to establish an independent church.

I was a homegrown pastor who later received formal theological education at the Theological Centre of Asia (TCA) and graduated with a Bachelor of Theology (BTh). Unfortunately, in 2005, after serving as a full-time pastor for 10 years, I returned to secular employment in the buildings and estates industry.

Today, I remain a firm believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, a husband, and, as of 2019, a proud grandfather.

About My Blog

This is my devotional writing, where I share my personal thoughts and reflections as I read the Bible. I have decided to cover the entire Bible, book by book. Interestingly, I will start with the last book—Revelation.

While some have encouraged me to begin with a shorter book like Jude, 1 John, or even the Gospel of Mark, I’ve chosen to begin with Revelation. My devotional commentary on the Book of Revelation is intended to be a layman’s commentary on a devotional platform.

My writing focuses on drawing out inspiring thoughts that strengthen us to face the daily challenges of life in a world full of difficulties. Although I aim to be theologically sound, I will not dive deeply into theological discussions; instead, I want this to be an exciting adventure in discovering nuggets of truth about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Even though I am starting with the book of Revelation, I hope to cover as many books of the Bible as I can.

Time is running out, and I believe the Lord Jesus Christ will return soon.

I find comfort and satisfaction in writing. My writings serve as a journal in which I uncover truths from the Bible, which I believe is the Word of God.

The truths I discover bring a euphoric feeling to my soul, as they are personal revelations about the Lord Jesus Christ. Additionally, I aspire to inspire others to live well and leave a lasting impact.
