Revelation 3:7-13
Please read your Bible text Rev: 3:7-13
The Lord Jesus comes to this Church in Philadelphia as the Holy and True (the Holy and Faithful One) and as holding the Key of David (Isa 22:22). The Holy One is a common title of God (Isa 40:25, 43:15). He is also the True One, in the sense that He is faithful and trustworthy. The Lord Jesus can always be counted on to keep His promise (Titus 1:2). As holding the Key of David, we shall soon see how this is relevant to the need of the Philadelphia Church.
He is faithful to keep you safe – vv.7-10
This is a faithful church who endures adversity to the point of little strength left! For those who have but little power left, be encouraged that He knows what you are going through. He is the True or the Faithful One who would keep His promise of protection and power.
He holds the Key to your door of protection – vv.8-9
He will set a door of protection by which you of little strength can enter in by His Name. That Name is the Key of David. When He opens, no amount of adversities can shut you out. And when He shuts, all the craft and strength of the adversaries can only knock on the outside of the door in vain.
Be faithful – hold fast to what you have – v.11
The Lord’s counsel for us is to hold on to what we have! Often, we envy others what we do not have. We crave the riches of the world but forget what we already have in Christ – the riches of His glories! Let us take heed to His counsel and hold on to what we have, lest someone else takes away our crown.
Rewards for the faithful – vv.12-13
For the overcomers or victors—their reward would be the eternal significance— “they are pillars in the Temple”. Pillars are structures of strength in God’s presence forever. And best of all, the Lord’s own mystic handwriting and engraving of your name on it. That would be our ecstatic joy and reward for holding on to what we already have in Christ.
Think: Be thankful for what you have – not envious for what you do not have.
Prayer: Lord, no matter what trials await us tomorrow, may we never forget the blessings you have shown us. Help me cling to you as my anchor. Help me remember your steadfast love and faithfulness for me in all things.
