Devotional Thoughts for Christians***

“Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power for ever and ever!’” — Revelation 5:13 (NIV)

Humanity has always struggled with a deep-seated tendency: to worship the created rather than the Creator. We attach ultimate value to power, success, wealth, pleasure, people, and even ourselves. The great conflicts and judgments recorded throughout Revelation are, at their heart, centered on this issue—who is worthy of worship?

From the beginning, the enemy has sought to divert hearts away from God. Kingdoms rise and fall, idols are erected and celebrated, and human beings continually seek substitutes for the One who made them. Yet Revelation pulls back the curtain and reveals the end of the story.

Here in Revelation 5, John witnesses a breathtaking coronation scene. The Lamb who was slain takes His rightful place at the center of the throne. Then an astonishing chorus erupts. Every creature in heaven, on earth, beneath the earth, and in the sea joins in one united declaration: Christ is supreme. Every rival claim is silenced. Every false god is exposed. Every voice acknowledges the glory of the Creator and His Christ.

This scene echoes the words of Paul in Philippians 2. Because Christ humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross—God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name above every name. Paul declares that one day “every knee should bow, in [heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

We catch a glimpse of that glorious fulfillment. What Paul proclaimed as a certainty, John sees as a reality: all creation united in worship before the exalted Christ.

What makes this scene so remarkable is that the One receiving this universal praise is the Lamb who was slain. The path to the throne led through the cross. The crucified Christ has secured this outcome through His sacrificial death and victorious resurrection. He alone is worthy because He gave Himself for the redemption of the world.

Today, we live in a world still filled with competing objects of worship. But Revelation reminds us where history is heading. The day is coming when all creation will unite in declaring what is already true: Jesus Christ is Lord. The wisest response is to join that song now.

Pause to Reflect:

What created things are competing for the devotion, trust, or affection that belong to Christ alone? How can you consciously give Him first place in your heart today?

Parting Thought:

The Lamb who wore a crown of thorns now wears the crown of heaven. One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Worship Him today as the King whom all creation will praise forever.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, worthy Lamb of God, forgive me for the times I have given my heart to created things instead of to You. Open my eyes to Your beauty, Your sacrifice, and Your supreme authority. Help me to worship You above all else and to live each day in joyful allegiance to Your throne. May my life join the everlasting song of heaven: “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever.” Amen.

I know, Lord, that not all idols are bad things. Often they are good gifts that quietly begin to take Your rightful place in my heart. As a wife, mother, healthcare professional, supervisor, student, and servant in ministry, sometimes I get so focused on doing everything so well that I forget to just sit in Your presence. I can rely too much on my planning, experience, and ability to care for everyone around me. I can think I have to carry every burden myself instead of resting in Your strength. Sometimes I also find myself wanting approval, wanting to meet expectations, do well, and not let people down. But no accomplishment, no acclaim, no human validation can fill my soul like Your love.
Today, I choose to put You first, and I start every task with a simple prayer: “Jesus, this is for You before it is for anyone else.” Whether I am caring for my family, caring for my care recipients, caring for my team, studying, dancing, or proclaiming Your Word, I want everything I do to be an offering of love and not another responsibility. Throughout the day, help me to pause and ask not only, “Lord, bless what I am doing,” but also, “Lord, what are You doing, and how may I join You?” Like Mama Mary, may my heart always whisper, “Do whatever He tells you.” Remove anything that would compete for my devotion, trust, or affection, and let Christ be the crown over every success, every relationship, every ministry, and every dream.
May my work never replace my worship, my ministry never replace my intimacy with You, and my accomplishments never replace my identity as Your beloved daughter. Let every part of my life be a witness to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, for when You are in charge of my heart, I am filled with peace, purpose, and perfect love.
